"Shop stewards are representatives of the work community elected by employees who belong to a trade union.
Duties of shop stewards
ensure that the employer complies with agreed contracts and terms of employment
to ensure that employees' legal protection is not violated
act as a negotiator, conciliator, mediator and information broker between employers and employees
local agreement on matters concerning employees with the employer
represents employees in, among other things, cooperation bodies
When you need help, always contact your own shop steward or the chief shop steward first. It is also a good idea to have a shop steward present when negotiating with your employer." (from Aalto University Wiki).
